Your Options, Explained

Four Surface Categories, Explained Plainly

Traditional Plaster

What most inground pools were built with. It is the familiar, lower-cost route: a cement-based surface applied to the shell and redone every ten years or so as it stains, goes rough, and wears down. It works, and if budget is the primary driver, it is a valid choice.

Aggregate and Pebble Finishes

A step up from plain plaster. These mixes embed quartz or pebble aggregate into the surface, which improves durability and gives the finish a textured, dimensional look. They hold up better than plaster and cost more, sitting between the two extremes on both counts.

Fiberglass Refinishing

If you have a fiberglass pool shell, your refinishing path is different from a gunite owner's. We resurface fiberglass pools that have faded, chalked, or developed staining that will not clean up, restoring the surface without replacing the shell.

ecoFINISH® Polymer Coating

The premium alternative to traditional surfaces. ecoFINISH is a thermo-polymer coating that is heat-fused directly to your pool shell in a single continuous surface. It is pH neutral, so it does not react with pool water the way plaster does. No staining, no algae taking hold, soft underfoot, and a 10-year manufacturer warranty. We are the exclusive ecoFINISH dealer in the Kansas City metro.

What It Costs, Honestly

Real Ranges Before You Talk to Anyone

Pricing is project-based and varies by service line. For coatings work generally, projects start around $15,000 as an entry point. A typical ecoFINISH pool coating project runs around $25,000 (that is a typical figure, not a fixed quote, and your project will vary by size and scope). Vinyl liner replacement for an inground pool runs around $8,000 typical. Residential garage floor coatings start around $6,000. Gunite and fiberglass refinishing, deck and patio work, and leak and crack repair are all project-based with no stated range; we quote those after seeing the job.

On timeline: most projects involve about one week of active work on site. Total time from start to fill, accounting for curing, scheduling, and weather, typically runs two to four weeks. We give you a clear timeline during your quote so you know when your pool goes down and when it comes back.

We are not the cheapest option in Kansas City and we do not try to be. When we lose a job on price, it is only ever on price. The work and the product are what they are.

The Prep Principle

A Good Surface Starts Before Any Coating Goes On

The finish goes on in a day. The prep takes a week. That's the difference.

What goes underneath matters as much as what goes on top. We do not cut corners on surface preparation, because a coating over bad prep fails. The About page explains what that looks like in practice.

Common Questions

Questions We Hear Before Every Quote

Pool owners in the Kansas City metro typically choose among four surface categories: traditional plaster (the familiar, lower-cost cement-based route, redone periodically), aggregate and pebble finishes (a step up in durability and texture), fiberglass refinishing (for fiberglass shells), and the ecoFINISH polymer coating (the premium, pH-neutral, stain- and algae-resistant route we are the exclusive KC dealer for). For a full comparison of plaster versus the polymer option, see our ecoFINISH vs. Plaster page.

Pricing is project-based and varies by service line. General coatings projects start around $15,000 as an entry point. A typical ecoFINISH pool coating project runs around $25,000. Vinyl liner replacement for an inground pool typically runs around $8,000. Residential garage floor coatings start around $6,000. For the full budgeting breakdown, see our pool resurfacing cost guide.

Most projects involve about one week of active work on site. Total project time, including curing, scheduling, and weather, typically runs two to four weeks from start to fill. We will give you a clear timeline during your quote.

Plaster is a cement-based surface that slowly dissolves in pool water, which is why it stains, goes rough underfoot, and grows algae over time. ecoFINISH is a flexible polymer coating heat-fused to the pool shell in a single continuous surface. It is pH neutral, so it does not react with pool water the way plaster does. No staining, no rough patches, no algae grabbing hold. For the full side-by-side comparison, see our ecoFINISH vs. Plaster page.
